MILWAUKEE – Stephanie Carman has been selected as the new district director for the Northeastern States Region of the BLM Eastern States. Ms. Carman appeared at the service on December 20.
“Stephanie brings impressive skills to the table,” said BLM Eastern States Director Mitchell Leverett. “He is a BLM veteran, has a strong background in public lands management, and I have no doubt he will do a spectacular job.”
Prior to joining the agency, Ms. Carman worked as the Aquatic Species Recovery Plan Coordinator for the New Mexico Game & Fish Department. She began working for the BLM in 2010 as the BLM Headquarters National Fish Program Biologist, eventually becoming Chief of the National Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Program in 2016. While at headquarters, Ms. Carman also held positions as a Legislative Affairs Specialist and National Sage-Grouse Strategy Project Coordinator. Most recently, he served as Associate District Manager for BLM Northeastern States. He holds a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in aquatic ecology from Loyola University Chicago. Ms. Carman is currently working toward a master's degree in library science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She enjoys kayaking, gardening, yoga and volunteering at the hospice.
“I am honored to be the BLM's Northeast States District Director,” said Carman. “I work with a fantastic team and have the privilege of leading them in providing balanced management of public lands for all of our constituents.”
Ms. Carman's swearing-in ceremony will be scheduled in the spring.
The Northeast States Region is responsible for managing public lands and underground minerals in 20 states east of and bordering the Mississippi River, which includes Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
