Dylan Kizlik stopped 31 shots as the Springfield Xtreme defeated the Red River Mudbugs 3-0 on Thursday night in St. Jean. Kai Orchard, Braeden Rebeck and Brady Chambers scored for the Xtreme (18-2-0-1) who moved within a point of the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League leading Steinbach Huskies. The defending champion Huskies take on the Lorette Comets tonight at TG Smith Arena. Springfield has a game in hand against Steinbach.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have dealt backup quarterback Dru Brown to the Ottawa Redblacks in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft. Brown was scheduled to become a free agent next month. The 26-year-old California native has appeared in 38 games with the Bombers since being acquired in 2020, throwing for 1,484 yards with 14 touchdowns. The Bombers also signed All-American receivers Kody Case & Tyler Adams as well as All-American quarterback Eric Barriere. Case & Adams spent time at the Indianapolis Colts' NFL training camp last summer as free agents. Barriere joins the Blue Bombers after an outstanding collegiate career at Eastern Washington. He attended the Denver Broncos' 2022 mini-camp and then spent time in the USFL with the Michigan Panthers and New Jersey Generals.

The CentrePort Canada Rail Park Manitoba Open, an official PGA TOUR Americas Fortinet Cup event, has granted a sponsor exemption to Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dylan Samberg, who will compete as an amateur in the August 22-25, 2024 tournament at Southwood Golf. & Country Club. Inviting an active NHL player to compete against PGA TOUR Americas pros has become a tradition at the event. A Winnipeg Jets player has played through the sponsor's waiver four times with Mark Scheifele playing in 2018 and 2022, Kyle Connor in 2019 and Morgan Barron in 2023. Samberg, a native of Hermantown, Minnesota, was drafted in 2017 and the fourth year pro enjoying his 3rd NHL season as a mainstay on the Jets defense. “Having an active member of an NHL roster play with our members is a tradition special to the CentrePort Canada Rail Park Manitoba Open,” said Scott Pritchard, PGA TOUR Americas Vice President. “We are excited to have Dylan represent the Jets and look forward to growing the game of golf in Manitoba and raising awareness of TNYF's mission.” Net proceeds from the CentrePort Rail Park Manitoba Open will once again go to the True North Youth Foundation (TNYF) to support the Project 11 Mental Wellness Program and introduce the game of golf to children at Camp Manitou.
