ITS Campus, ITS News – The prestige of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya in the international arena is improving and it is starting to attract external parties to establish cooperation. This time it was shown by the visit of representatives from the Northeastern University of Boston, United States to the ITS Rectorate on Wednesday (12/09).
The visit, initiated by Associate Professor Dr. Julius Marpaung and Jeffey Hegel from Northeastern University, aims to explore the possibility of collaborating on internships for ITS academics. The internship collaboration from Northeastern University itself focused on the industry sector.
Seeing that ITS is also an institute known in the field of technology, Julius finds it fitting to explore this collaboration with ITS. This is also supported by Northeastern University's focus on technology as well. “The possibilities and development of the cooperation with ITS are very promising and we hope that in the future it can be well established,” said Julius after the meeting with ITS leaders.
Julius, who happened to be Indonesian, also hoped that in the next meeting, both parties would sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a tangible proof of the start of this cooperation.
Meanwhile, ITS chancellor Prof. Ir Joni Hermana, M.Sc.ES Ph.D., said that this collaboration was the beginning for ITS to reopen the portal for collaboration with universities in America, after a few gap years. This is because, currently, students have a higher priority to increase their skills in the field of industrial revolution 4.0.
The professor of Environmental Engineering accepts with great enthusiasm the invitation for internship cooperation in this field. In addition, since 1892, Northeastern University has designed its educational process by requiring its students to be able to do an internship before graduation.
According to Joni, graduating students don't just need a diploma or certificate, they also need internship experience. “This internship is proof that the student is capable enough to work outside,” said the chancellor who is also an expert in climate change science.
By reopening the opportunity for ITS to collaborate with universities from America, Joni hopes to further support industrial revolution 4.0 in the future. (li/ITS Public Relations Officer)
