Cleveland Clinic was named the fourth best hospital in the nation and No. 1 in cardiology and cardiac surgery in 2022-23 Best Hospitals listings from US News & World Report.
Cleveland Clinic was also rated the No. 1 hospital in Ohio and placed nationally in 13 specialties — including nine in the Top 10 and six in the Top 5.
Among Northeast Ohio health systems, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center was ranked No. 3 in the state. Cleveland Clinic Akron General was ranked No. 7 in a statewide tie and Summa Health System was No. 16.
Aultman Hospital of Canton was No. 12 in the state and a “high performer” in 10 procedures.
Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton was No. 19 in the state.
For the seventh year in a row, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. was named the nation's top hospital.

The rankings — now in their 33rd year — are intended to “help patients and their doctors make informed decisions about where to get quality care,” the journal said in a press release.
US News rates hospitals in more than 30 medical and surgical services, including three new cancer ratings: ovarian cancer surgery, prostate cancer surgery and uterine cancer surgery.
This year's assessment also includes an expanded set of health equity measures that highlight which hospitals provide more care to low-income patients and which have racial disparities in certain surgical outcomes.
“For patients considering their options for where to receive care, the Best Hospitals rankings are designed to help them identify hospitals that excel in the type of care they may need,” said Ben Harder, head of health analytics and managing editor. in US News. “The new cancer scores provide patients facing prostate or gynecologic cancer surgery with previously unavailable information to help them make a critical health care decision.”

Cleveland Clinic
Cleveland Clinic's main campus in Cleveland won several honors at the fair.
Six Cleveland Clinic specialties were ranked in the top 5 in the nation: cardiology and cardiac surgery (1). gastroenterology and gastroenterology (4); geriatrics (2); obstetrics and gynecology (4); urology (2) and rheumatology (2).
Nine Cleveland Clinic specialties ranked in the nation's Top 10: cancer (6); neurology and neurosurgery (8) and pulmonology and lung surgery (6).
Other rankings included: diabetes and endocrinology (11). ear, nose and throat (23); ophthalmology (11); and orthopedics (14).
In addition, the health system was ranked as a “high performer” in 18 processes and situations.

The Clinic also said that “since 1995, no other hospital in America has surpassed Cleveland Clinic in cardiac care.”
In the Akron metro area, Cleveland Clinic Akron General was ranked No. 1.

Summa Health
Akron-based Summa was ranked No. 2 in the Akron area. Summa was also ranked “high performing” in seven processes and conditions.
University Hospitals
Cleveland-based University Hospitals, which operates UH Portage Medical Center and is a minority owner of Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, was No. 3 in the state and ranked in four specialties.
UH Cleveland Medical Center was ranked in the Top 50 nationally in cardiology and cardiac surgery (38). ear, nose and throat (17); geriatrics (46); and neurology and neurosurgery (39). UH was cited as a “high performer” in cancer. Gastroenterology and gastroenterology. and urology. US News also listed UH Cleveland Medical Center as a high performer for 16 common adult procedures and conditions.
