MILWAUKEE, Wis. Today the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced the selection of Pamela Mathis as the new District Manager for the Northeast States Region. Ms. Mathis will present herself at the service on January 16.
“Pamela is an experienced leader who brings passion and innovation to public lands management,” said Mitchell Leverette, BLM Eastern States State Director. “We are excited to have her lead the Northeast States Region as we advance BLM's priorities and address the complex challenges of managing vast natural resources for the benefit of the American people.”
Prior to joining BLM Eastern States, Ms. Mathis served as Field Manager of the BLM Taos Field Office in New Mexico. She also held previous positions as Associate District Manager at the BLM Gila District in Tucson, Arizona, as well as Administrative Officer and Public Affairs Specialist during her tenure at the BLM Phoenix District Office. During Mathis' tenure at BLM, she held several other leadership positions and notable interim assignments as deputy district director, director, and director in other offices.
Ms. Mathis' contributions to the sound management of natural resources have extended beyond the borders of the United States. Her adventurous career allowed her to travel the world and took her overseas to Micronesia where she served as Press Secretary to Governor Larry Guerrero and was assigned to energy and water development programs with the United Nations. Her development in aquatic education programs has led to working relationships with the Mariana Islands, the Republic of Palau, Vanuatu, American Samoa, the Virgin Islands and Hawaii.
The Northeast States Region is responsible for managing public lands and underground minerals in 20 states east of and bordering the Mississippi River, which includes Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
