BOSTON – The Boston University women's ice hockey team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 overtime game to Northeastern on Friday night at Walter Brown Arena.
Sophomore Clara Yun opened the scoring midway through regulation with his fourth goal of the season.
Northeastern tied the game with 4:25 left in the third before securing the win on a Skylar Irving field goal with 48.1 seconds left in overtime.
BU falls to 6-8-1 overall and 4-6-0 in Hockey East, while the Huskies improve to 11-8-0 with a 7-6-0 conference record.
HOW DID IT HAPPEN
- Both teams created some chances in the opening minutes of the match and the Terriers displayed some quick and attacking play throughout the opening period.
- BU held a 10-5 shot advantage in the second period and was rewarded for its play by cashing in on a rush at 8:13.
- Freshman Alex Law i fed Lacey Martin at center ice and the senior went up the left side before finding Yuhn at the feet of the right circle for a stunning finish off the pass.
- After controlling the game at 5-on-5 for a stretch while looking for a multi-goal lead, the Terriers got their first and only power play of the night with 8:48 left in regulation.
- BU was unable to register a shot attempt in the first half on the power play, but then created a handful of looks only to have them all saved or blocked as the Huskies kept it a one-goal game.
- Ella Blackmore provided the tying goal for Northeastern when she cut to the left circle and faked to the near side before stretching the puck around BU netminder Alexa Matsis.
- Matches made three saves the rest of regulation and NU's Gwyneth Phillips made a stop in the final minute to push the game into overtime.
- Matches came up big with two stops in the first minute of overtime before the Terriers created a few looks that Philips was able to handle.
- Irving ended the game when she finished a 2-on-1 rush with Peyton Anderson by converting a backhand from the bottom of the left slot.
