10. Yale-New Haven Hospital (New Haven, Connecticut)
As the first hospital in Connecticut, Yale-New Haven has played an important role in medical history. The hospital is ranked as the number one hospital in Connecticut US News & World Reporthas been designated by Magnet for nursing excellence and is connected to more than 4,800 physicians.

US News & World Report ranked Hackensack University Medical Center as the number three hospital in the New York metro area and the top hospital in New Jersey for 2013-14. Geisinger Medical Center has grown from its original 70 beds to the nation's largest rural health services organization. Today, the Level I trauma center has received Magnet designation for nursing excellence, been named a “Most Wired” hospital, and has been named one of the safest hospitals in the nation by the Leapfrog Group.
Center of attention: Geisinger Medical Center is one of the training campuses for Geisinger Health Center's new neurosurgery residency program, which began in 2013. The program is one of only five neurosurgery programs added in the past five years in the United States.
3. Christiana Care Health System (Newark, Delaware)
Dating back to 1890, Christiana Care Health System is an award-winning hospital, earning a number of accolades in general surgery, orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, pulmonary care and overall clinical excellence. The hospital currently performs in the top 5 percent of hospitals nationally.
