Newcastle's oldest rugby union club has secured a sponsor for this season, thanks to the support of an award-winning North East law firm.
Mincoffs Solicitors have teamed up with Northern Football Club as the firm signs on as shirt sponsor for the mini and youth rugby teams.
14 teams train with the club each week, ranging in age from under 6 to under 16, including the club's girls team, the Northern Amazons.
The sports club is one of a number of local groups and charities supported by the company – which recently changed its logo as part of an ongoing rebrand – as part of its ongoing ESG work.
Paul Hughes, senior partner and head of firm at Mincoffs Solicitors, is delighted to support the club.
“Sport is a fantastic outlet for young people and Northern Football Club is a great example of that, so we are delighted to be signing on as shirt sponsor this season,” he said.
“Many of our staff have children playing for the youth teams, so it's an organization we have close links with and are proud to support.
“We wish all the Northern Football Club players a fantastic season in their new kits and look forward to cheering them on.”
The rugby club, which was founded in 1875, is based at McCracken Park, Gosforth, and boasts a number of players who have gone on to play at international level, including Jonathan Webb, Brian Keen, David Rees and Colin White. .
The club has strong links with Newcastle Falcons and, from U14s upwards, regularly has players come through the player development program and academy.
Ben Hunter, chairman of youth rugby at the club, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Mincoffs for their support of Northern this year.
“Community sport can have such a positive influence on individuals and communities and we think rugby is particularly good at this. The support from Mincoffs is invaluable in enabling us to offer players and coaches personal development on and off the pitch.
“These funds also allow us to offer inclusive opportunities for players to go on tour at the end of the season for people who might not otherwise be able to. Thanks to all the team at Mincoffs.”
Mincoffs has gone from strength to strength over the past 12 months, with its corporate team named as the North East's most active legal adviser in the latest Experian Market IQ M&A review.
In addition to corporate and commercial services, the firm's offering includes real estate, dispute resolution, employment law, licensing and gambling, residential conveyancing, family law and wills, probate and trusts.
