The large plume of dangerous wildfire smoke that moved through New York on Wednesday drifted into the Mid-Atlantic Thursday, bringing dangerous air conditions to Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
By Thursday night, the heaviest smoke will continue to spread across the Mid-Atlantic. AQI values can reach 400 in some areas. (Levels below 100 are generally considered safe.)
By Friday morning, hazardous fog will cover Pittsburgh and the Chesapeake Bay.
Smoke may thin during the day on Friday with cities like New York seeing clearer conditions by Friday evening.
There will be significant relief until Monday when a cold front sweeps through the East, removing much of the smoke in the air.

New York City's air quality health advisory has been extended through Friday night.
While the AQI in New York drops significantly during the day, as of Thursday afternoon it was recorded at 178, which is still considered unhealthy.

Learning will be remote on Friday for New York City Public Schools.
